Why this site exists
The island is bigger than the itinerary.
Sri Lanka welcomes visitors from all over the world — and most of them are guided along the same narrow loop of famous stops. After watching well over a hundred travel vlogs, we noticed the same pattern again and again: wonderful people flying across the world to see Sri Lanka, and leaving having seen only the version of it that fits an itinerary template.
The famous places deserve their fame. Sigiriya is extraordinary. But a country is not six photographs. There are forest monasteries where you will hear only wind, working hill towns beyond the viral train arc, dawn markets where the whole island's produce changes hands, and everyday kindness that never makes it into a reel.
Who we are
We are a Sri Lankan couple who have travelled this island extensively — not as a job, but as a habit of a lifetime. The curated notes on this site, especially the "What most visitors miss" sections, are written from our own visits. When we have not personally been somewhere, we say so rather than borrowing someone else's memory.
How we make recommendations
- First-hand first. Personal experience is labelled as such. Facts we did not witness are attributed to sources.
- Honest fit, not hype. Every place note tries to say who it suits, who it does not, and what the drawbacks are.
- Fact and legend, both — clearly labelled. Sri Lanka's stories matter. We tell them as stories, and keep verifiable facts separate.
- Respect for what is sacred. Temples, ruins, and living traditions are presented so visitors can engage with them properly, not consume them.
- Illustrative planning only. Route suggestions are starting points. Transport, weather, tickets, and access must always be verified against current official information.
What this site is not
We are not a travel agency and do not sell tours, accommodation, or transport. We do not accept payment for placement. If that ever changes, it will be disclosed plainly on this page and beside the relevant content.
